Water

Today we’re going to talk about water. Why? you might ask yourself. Well, firstly water is vital for all of us of course but in our business it’s doubly important, without it there would be no cleaning of bins, no Freshbinz Ltd at all.

It’s part of all our everyday lives and for us a huge part of our business. In first world countries it’s easy to take water for granted, you turn on the tap and there it is, except when it isn’t, and boy do we feel the lack of it if there’s a burst main or a blockage which stops our usual access to this life-giving substance?

So, what are the facts about water? Well, yes the most obvious thing, it’s wet! At least in the liquid state. But there are many more facts about water that make it a fascinating substance, one that all life on Earth depends on. Water is unique because it’s the only natural substance that’s found in all three physical states—liquid, solid, and gas at the temperatures normally found on Earth.

Water freezes at 0° C and boils at 100° C at sea level. ( It’s hard to make a cup of tea on top of a mountain) Water is unusual because the solid form, ice, is less dense than the liquid form, which is why ice floats.  It’s called a universal solvent because it dissolves more substances than any other liquid.

At Freshbinz we realise the importance of conserving water, that’s why all the water used to clean your wheelie bins is recycled. Our vehicles are specially designed to make this possible. We don’t just pour it down the drain.

Because it’s so important we’ve put together our top ten facts about this amazing substance.

  1. 68.7% of the fresh water on Earth is trapped in glaciers
  2. Over 90% of the world’s supply of fresh water is in Antarctica
  3. 70% of the human brain is water
  4. 80% of all illness in the developing world is water related
  5. Each day, we lose a little more than a cup of water (237 ml) when we exhale it. (no wonder we have to wear masks!)
  6. Two-thirds of the world’s population is projected to face water scarcity by 2025, according to the United Nations
  7. To make 1 gallon of wine it requires 1,008 gallons of water (oh dear!)
  8. A water-efficient dishwasher uses as little as 4 gallons per cycle but hand washing dishes uses 20 gallons of water
  9. It takes more than twice the amount of water to produce coffee than it does tea.
  10. NASA has discovered water in the form of ice on the moon

We didn’t know most of the above facts, but what we do know is that water is precious, without it we wouldn’t have life and slightly less importantly there would be no Freshbinz Ltd. So, next time you see us out and about cleaning bins you can be sure that we’re looking after this most precious of commodities the best we can.
